A Touching Story…

Here is a really touching story…I hope you like it….

A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom, and knowing his father could easily afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As graduation day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box. Curious, and somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young mans name embosses in gold. Angrily, he rose and said to his father, “With all your money, you give me a Bible?” And he stormed out of the house.

Many years passed, and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family but knew his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day years earlier. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.

When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still gift- wrapped Bible just as he had left it years ago. With tears running down his face, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse of Scripture: “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11). As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation and the words “Paid in Full.” How many times do we miss God’s blessings because we can’t see past our own desires?

Speech *Again*

Hope you enjoy this one!

Hello my name is Katie Braun

I will be talking about George Stokes and how as a Christian he impacted Modern Science.

George was born on August 13, 1819 in Skreen, Ireland. His father was a minister and his mother was a minister’s daughter. As the youngest of six children, he was brought up in a very religious family.  George had a good educational background that, combined with his Godly heritage, prepared him for his life’s work in science.

At the age of 16, George went to Bristol College in England; there he remained there for 2 years preparing for Cambridge. At Cambridge he studied Mathematics and Science. His studies in science were considered more important because they layed the foundation for his work in modern engineering and the science of fluid mechanics.

After graduating from Cambridge, he remained there and tutored private students. George finally married Mary in 1857. That same year he became President of Victoria Institute. He remained there until his death in 1903.  Before his death he wrote a book on Natural Theology. He emphasized his belief of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

George Stokes successful career in mastering and teaching fluid mechanics along his faith in Jesus Christ demonstrates that a belief in God and love for true science can be combined into a successful career.

Thank you,

Katie

Dreamer

I just signed up for our library’s annual summer reading program. You have to get up to 1200 points. You can get 40 points by writing a book summary. So I wrote a book summary on the book Dreamer. I finished it (of course!) and here is the final book summary.

Cale Crane wants to go the the Breeders Cup horse contest but her father, Ben Crane, does not want her to go. Finally her father lets her go to the contest and she meets a beautiful filly named, Sonador. At the contest, Sonador falls into a hole and injures her leg very badly. Ben’s boss, Everett Palmer, owes Ben nine-thousand dollars for Ben’s job; but when Everett wants to put the horse to sleep, Cale steps in and, eventually Ben takes the horse and six-thousand even. Eventually, Sonador gets healthy enough to enter the Breeders Contest and her jockey, Manolin, win the contest and get three million dollars.

It is a book for people who are horse fans and who are not horse fans. I am NOT a horse fan and I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just picked it up off the library shelf and I couldn’t put it down! Talk about a GOOD BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They also have a DVD that I checked out of the library today, I haven’t watched it yet, but it looks good!

Tell me how you like the summary!
