May 6th We are getting very close to going into hiding. Well we are starting to pack the food. I am packing this (diary), clothes, all my school work, and my personal stuff. I forgot to write this yesterday, we are to wear a six pointed star it’s the symbol of a Jew. Rachel is packing everything that she can put in her school bag. I told her to pack only necessary to stuff. Jacob is packing college school work, clothes, and personal stuff. William is packing school work, and since he might graduate well in hiding, if he does he will use Jacobs’s school books. William is packing personal stuff too. I just heard terrible voices, it sounded kind of German :( My hands are shaking too much to write. I will try to write later!! )
Later: Whew, that is the closest I have seen a Nazi solider. Mom and Dad were hiding, and I didn’t know that so I went down stairs and the Nazi solider was leaving so I crept down quietly and thankfully he didn’t see me!! I went and told Mom and Dad and told them they were clear. Then told them about the Nazi solider they thought I was very brave!! :) Hope I can be brave like that in the future!!

This is a fictional diary I am writing for school, since we are learning about World War II.
May 5th 1942
Dear Diary,
Me and my family are terrified. Hitler came into power and we are Jews. We are getting ready to go into hiding, if we get found we will go to a concentration camp. Well I have to go help pack. I’ll try to write later!!
Later:
I’m in a very happy mood right now. We are going to hide in Daddy’s work building. We must be very very quiet. Mommy said that other friends are coming to hide with us, and one of the girls is my best firend!! I can’t wait!! Since some other friends are coming we must set some rules. Well I have never really talked about my family so I will tell you right now, There’s Dad (40) Mom (39) Jacob (20) William (15) Jessica (me) (12) and then there’s little darling Rachel (5). We must tell Rachel to be very quiet!! Let’s see we are leaving in on the 7th which is very soon. My birthday is coming up it is the 10th and I will have to spend it in hiding. Well I must go. Story of the World is a curriculum for history and reading. There is one “main book” and then you get books out on the same time period. I have read Volume One and am just starting Volume Four. We are studying World War II so I am using Volume Four. Personally, it isn’t really hard for me to understand. I would say the reading level is for 3rd grade and up - or, my mom reads it aloud to all of us! It’s compatible for both.

Right now I am reading The Royal Ballet School Diaries. They are very intresting books. I am on book #4 out of 7 books. First, Ellie starts out in Chichgo then moves to Oxford, England to start the JA (Junior associates). While there, she becomes best firends with Bethany Wilson. She auditions for The Royal Ballet School and she goofs up and thinks she won’t make it. She finds out Bethany didn’t make it. After days of desperately waiting, she finally recives the letter and makes it!!
